China is expected to shut down and clamp down on more than 5,000 mines this year, as a part of its efforts to improve production security, protect environment and tackle overcapacity, wenhua.com.cn reported.
An official of China’s State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS) said 93% of mines in China (metal and non-metal) are in small sizes with outdated facilities and lacking safety equipment. Thus, the SAWS released the first list of 19 types of equipment and technologies banned in mining operations in September 2013. The second such list was issued recently.
